- Topic tags are being rolled out to users around the world, which will give users more opportunities to find relevant discussions in the app.
- Users have the right to use only one tag per post in order to prevent spam posts.
- Also, for the same reason, the search flow is not sorted chronologically.
After testing in select markets over the last few weeks, Threads topic tags are now rolling out to all users worldwide, providing users with more ways to find relevant discussions in the app.
Instagram admin To Adam Mosseri According to Threads topic tags, which are “like hashtags but not hashtags,” they will help direct conversations in the app and provide more current interaction around your desired topic. Threads has been careful about introducing tags because it tries to create a positive environment where such features will be less abused.
You’re only allowed one tag per post, so you can’t add too many trending tags to include your post in a trending thread.
You have to manually add a tag within the builder, so you can’t copy and paste the same post and have the tag take effect.
Instead of adding the “#” symbol to divide your sentence, you can create a hashtag with multiple words, leaving space so they fit more naturally.
When you add a hashtag, your post can be found more easily based on a specific topic, but anyone who mentions the same keywords will appear in the same search stream, regardless of whether the topic tag was added by the creator or not. Additionally, this search stream cannot be sorted chronologically.
Mosseri explained why: “Having a comprehensive list of ‘every’ post containing a given word in chronological order inevitably means that spammers and other bad actors will clutter the feed by simply adding relevant words or tags.”
This is a common problem on the X platform; users add trending hashtags to spam posts to get their content in front of more people in popular feeds. This is why Threads limits the use of hashtags to one per post at this stage.
The real value of X was that it allowed you to get the latest news on any topic; because usually the most important developments in all sectors emerged this way. Threads are less useful in this regard, but topic tags are another step in the right direction. Although the Threads team is cautious about the issue, they are developing new solutions that they hope will better align with the instant discovery value of X.
