According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is beta testing the feature of sending voice messages that can only be listened to once by the intended recipient.
The feature, which is currently only available to a limited number of Android and iOS users using the beta version of the app, can reportedly be accessed by tapping the small “1” icon that appears to the right of the voice memo form during recording.
WABetaInfo states, “You will not be able to listen to the voice memo after sending it with the view once mode enabled, and the recipient will no longer be able to listen to the voice memo after turning it off.” he stated.
The messaging service owned by Meta already has a similar “View Once” feature for photos and videos, which it launched in 2021. Therefore, this move seems logical, considering that voice messages can be equally sensitive.
As with all beta WhatsApp features, it’s not yet possible to tell if or when this will be rolled out more widely.
