Apple is expected to announce the new generation iPad Pro series in 2024. Current reports are that these models will offer significant improvements, including an OLED display. However, this upgrade may not only apply to the iPad Pro.
For those who don’t know, the iPad Pro currently on the market has not undergone any major changes in recent years. It is said that the new generation iPad Pro will be the first major iPad update since 2018. At this point, research firm Omdia reported that negotiations have begun for iPad Pro and iPad Mini with OLED screens.
According to the information received, Apple; It is working on OLED versions of the iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad Mini models. Apple previously produced iPads with “retina displays”.
So what are “Retina Display” and “OLED Display”?
It is an important issue that Apple is switching from retina displays to OLED displays. But more importantly, what are these screens?
Retina display technology is a technology unique to Apple. With Retina display technology, the pixels in the image are both reduced and their number increased significantly. Since more pixels are used, the user sees a much higher resolution value when looking at the screen.
OLED screen means organic light emitting diodes. OLED, a display technology like LCD and LED, controls the color sequence along with the light source. Thus, light transmission with appropriate brightness and tone is provided to hundreds of pixels on the screen. Devices with OLED screens consume less energy and provide higher quality and denser images – just like the retina screen.
iPads with OLED screens are on the way!
Today, many device models that we can consider advanced have OLED screens. However, it is quite possible that future iPad models will also have this screen type.
It is said that Apple will cooperate with LG, Samsung and Chinese suppliers for the OLED panels in question. However, the final decision has not been made yet.
Compared to the OLED screen iPad Pro, which will be introduced in 2024, the year 2026 is indicated for iPad Air and Mini. It seems like Apple isn’t fully committed to bringing more advanced display technology to its mid-range tablets yet.
