- Tomo offers programs such as guided meditation, yoga, affirmation classes and talk therapy to users seeking personal development, mental well-being and satisfaction.
- Clinical psychologists and mindfulness teachers collaborated in the development of Tomo. However, due to concerns about users’ privacy, the Android version of the application, which can currently only be used on iPhones, will also be released soon.
AI-powered company Replika has teamed up with the team behind AI dating simulator Blush to launch Tomo, a new health and meditation app that guides users. Tomo is now generally available on the Apple iOS store, inviting users to a virtual island retreat accompanied by an AI-generated avatar guide.
Tomo is for users seeking personal development, mental well-being and satisfaction; It offers programs such as guided meditation, yoga, affirmation classes and speech therapy. After a three-day free trial period, users can continue using the application with weekly or annual payment options.
Replika’s CEO, Eugenia Kuyda, states that there was collaboration with clinical psychologists and mindfulness teachers during the development of Tomo. Tomo aims to provide users with a therapy-like experience and tries to understand their personal preferences and needs by interacting with them.
However, this artificial intelligence therapy experience established through written communication, as in text-based therapy services, may not be deep enough for some users. While the guided meditation and other programs offered by Tomo may be effective for some users, for others they may fall short of meeting their cravings for more traditional therapy methods.
The use of artificial intelligence for mental health therapy is still a controversial issue. In addition, privacy concerns are an important obstacle to applications in this field. The success of Replika’s Tomo application will depend on the measures taken regarding user privacy and security. Tomo is currently only available on iPhones. The Android version of the application is planned to be released towards the end of this year.
