- Elon Musk launched the X chatbot Grok-1. Musk claimed that Grok outperforms GPT-3.5.
- Grok, which consists of two versions: entertainment and normal mode, uses more friendly, rude and political language than other chat robots.
- Grok-1, which is only suitable for written communication, is accessible to X Premium+ users.
X’s chatbot, Grok-1, differs from the usual artificial intelligence experience with its different features. Current events, popular culture, and political theories and conspiracies that are off-limits to other AI chatbots also fall within Grok’s purview. xAI claims Grok-1 is as capable as Meta’s chatbot Llama 2 and outperforms OpenAI’s GPT-3.5.
Grok is an extension of xAI, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence initiative. Grok benefits from real-time access to X and, according to some sources, Tesla, on questions that go beyond its knowledge base. Similar to other chatbots, Grok also has internet browsing capabilities.
Unlike other chatbots, Grok cannot detect the content of images, audio and videos. He can only communicate in writing. Grok, which answers questions such as general knowledge and weather conditions, refuses to answer sensitive questions. In questions about trends in X, Grok starts repeating related posts.
Grok consists of two modes: entertainment and normal. In entertainment mode, it is possible to hear colorful colloquial language and even swear words that you would not expect from a chatbot. Grok, who starts his response with the addresses “Dear human friend” and “Mysterious anonymous”, makes rude criticisms according to his X post history. Entertainment mode chat also includes fake philosophical musings and misinformation about current events.
The answers Grok gives in its default normal mode, although inaccurate, are not as extreme as the answers in the fun mode. The chatbot is still shuffling information and the chronological order of events.
According to Paul Tassi from Forbes, Grok gives more liberal answers than ChatGPT on content such as social justice, climate change, and transgender identities. In his conversation with artificial intelligence, Tassini received the answer that he would vote for Biden because of his health care policy. Following the political conversation, Grok’s response input was changed to “yes/no.”
Grok is currently available to X Premium+ users. Web is located in the side menu of X on iOS and Android. Unlike ChatGPT, Grok does not have a standalone application or website.
Elon Musk aims to release the improved version of the model, Grok-1.5, towards the end of this year. It has been reported that Grok-1.5 will be equipped with features to summarize all threads and replies and suggest post content. At the same time, Musk has promised to move Grok closer to political neutrality.
